Embedding Unique Functionalities In Composites By Continuous Fiber Printing
Estrel Convention Center, Berlin, Germany
12:40 - 13:00
The presentation will provide initially an overview over the range of possible sensors (pressure, elongation, flexural) that have been embedded in composites by exploiting the freedom in fiber positioning by FDM. The response of continuous carbon fibers as a function of flexural load will be presented in a more comprehensive fashion. Particular attention will be given to flexural sensors reproducibility in automated manufacturing (i.e. continuous fiber FDM), ranges of sensitivity vs materials combinations and composites morphology vs variations in signal output.
Speaker Biography (Andrea Gasperini)
Andrea Gasperini received its PHD in the field of organic electronics in 2016 from Ecole Polythechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL). After post-doc experiences at BASF and Stanford University, he joined Brightlands Materials Center (BMC) where he currently covers a position as Polymer Scientist. At Brightalnds Materials Center, his research interests focus on extrusion based additive manufacturing of thermoplastic composites and embedding structural sensors in 3D printed objects
