Europlasma Launches World's First Halogen-Free Plasma Nanocoating To Protect Wearable And Portable Electronic Devices

Today's consumers want to use their electronic devices in an active lifestyle, and expect their smartphones, speakers or headphones to be protected against water and sweat. Low pressure plasma is a unique technology to deposit ultra-thin coatings on all exposed surfaces of a complex shaped material or product, without affecting the good working of the device. Consumer electronics can be coated as a whole to avoid ingress, or the internal electronic components can be barrier coated to protect against corrosion from water or sweat that does make it into the device. The presentation will review several nanocoating strategies to splash-, water- or sweatproof electronic wearables and portables. The presentation will subsequently introduce a new generation of nanocoatings which are completely halogen-free and show better protection than parylene.
Filip Legein holds a MSc in Materials Engineering and MBA of the KU Leuven in Belgium.
He managed Europlasma as CEO from 2008 to 2018, during which period he transformed Europlasma from high tech machine builder to licensing company of nanocoating solutions for end markets such as filtration, technical textiles, medical and electronic devices.
