Sri Lanka is the only country to mine ultra-pure highly crystalline vein graphite with more than 98% of carbon purity in the world from last 100+ years. With three operational mines, Sri Lanka is currently producing negligible 300 tons of Graphite monthly. Though the production capacity is minute, harnessing the uniqueness of this material, Ceylon Graphene Technologies (CGTL) started a full scale production facility to manufacture Graphene Oxide, Reduced Graphene Oxide, custom functionalized Graphene and very high aspect ratio Expanded Graphite in collaboration with Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC).
LAB6X is the most promising and revolutionary composite material developed by CGTL to the Lead Acid Battery industry with the remarkable Dynamic Charge Acceptance DCA and Cycle life improvements. Similarly, CGTL is into new product developments in Lithium ion batteries, super capacitors, inks, paints and coatings, water purification materials and EMI/RFI shielding composites. CGTL will be the real enabler of Graphene and its derivatives into the industrial world due to its high purity and lowest cost.
Manju Gunawardana, the Director/CEO of Ceylon Graphene Technologies counts over 20 years in Research and Innovation in various subject areas including Nano technology, Advanced material & Engineering. He holds a MSc in Electronics Engineering from University of Houston and he is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, American Chemical Society and International Society for Automation. He is also the winner of multiple international awards including 3 Geneva Innovation Congress Gold Medals and represents the Advisory Board of National Graphene Association.
