Presentation Summary

Electron Beam Melting (EBM) is a powder-bed-fusion process for additive manufacturing of metallic parts. In the talk, the state-of-the-art of the process will be briefly covered. Furthermore, in case studies concerning powder, material and process development as well as design aspects the application potential of EBM will be presented.

Speaker Biography (Burghardt Klöden)

Burghardt Klöden studied physics at the Technical University of Dresden and Sheffield University. After earning his PhD degree in Solid State Physics, he joined Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden in 2006. Starting with applied R&D in the field of powder-metallurgical high temperature materials, he took over responsibility for the EBM technology in 2012.
