The promises of earning new business are big. However, turning ideas and concepts into practice addressing real customer needs remains a challenge. Often, we miss the right information to solve technical customer problems. Appropriate sensing solutions are key to obtain the missing information. This talk will look at system solutions going from the information source up to the cloud. It focuses on the requirements and challenges in providing scalable sensing systems. This includes hardware related topics like e.g. power consumption as well as software related ones associated with introduction of AI in distributed sensing systems. Examples from smart production and smart buildings will be presented. Speaker Biography (Ulf Ahrend)Ulf Ahrend studied Physics at the Technical University Braunschweig and at Virginia Tech (USA). During his Ph.D. studies he worked on turbulent heat transfer at MIT and Technical University Braunschweig. Currently, he is Principal Scientist at ABB's Corporate Research Center Germany. His main focus is on sensor-based condition monitoring and autonomous sensing devices using energy harvesting. Company Profile (ABB)![]() ABB www.abb.com ![]() |
