Presentation Summary

Currently, there are hundreds of sensors in our automobiles, homes, smart devices, and wearable technologies. As this trend continues, it is reasonable to predict that by 2020, we will interact with thousands of sensors every day. This presentation will explore the emergence of the Trillion Sensor Network (TSN) and the new fabrication and manufacturing strategies required to support rapidly growing manufacturing volumes and the demands for increasing sensor performance.

Speaker Biography (James W. Stasiak)

Jim Stasiak is a Distinguished Technologist in Hewlett-Packard's Advanced Technology and Products Lab in Corvallis, Oregon. His current responsibilities include the identification and development of emerging technologies that uniquely extend HP's digital printing capabilities and competencies into new technology and application domains. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Jim has held engineering management, senior level technologist and staff scientist positions at HP, Xerox, Tektronix and IBM. He is recognized as one of the pioneers who showed how digital fabrication methods can transform the way products are designed, prototyped and manufactured. Jim's current research interests include the development of functional materials and the adaptation of digital fabrication methods to enable and accelerate innovations in bioprinting and bioengineering. Jim holds Bachelor's degrees in Physics and Philosophy from Lewis University (1977) and a Master's degree in Physics from Southern Illinois University (1979).
