Speaker Biography (Fred Thiel)

Fred Thiel is an independent board member/operating partner/senior advisor to private equity and venture capital firms, their portfolio companies, and public and private technology companies. He also sits on a number of public and private corporate boards and mentors management teams of promising new companies. He is considered an industry expert in the areas of M2M, smart systems, and connected intelligence, and has been speaking on these topics for over 20 years.
He provides deep technology industry expertise, strategic advice on generating growth and shareholder value, acquisition strategy development and execution, and exit strategy development and execution.
Fred has over 25 years of operating experience leading companies in the technology, data communications, Internet, M2M, automation, Big Data, digital media and software industries. He has repeatedly driven rapid growth and generated hundreds of millions of dollars in shareholder value.
Fred joined the Board of B&B Electronics (, an M2M networking solutions provider, in 2008. B&B Electronics is a Graham Partners portfolio company, for whom Fred has been an Operating Partner since 2007. Fred is also serving as an advisor to RACO Wireless, a leading provider of M2M wireless data solutions. RACO is an Inverness Graham Investments portfolio company.
He is also currently Chairman and CEO for Local Corporation (NASDAQ:LOCM), a leading local advertising technology company that connects millions of online and mobile consumers with businesses and products through a variety of innovative digital advertising solutions.
He has been CEO for several companies including Lantronix, a leader in M2M, device networking, and systems management technology. While at Lantronix, Fred repositioned the company, doubled revenues in four years, acquired and integrated four companies, and successfully raised over $120 million through an IPO and follow-on secondary offering. Network World interviewed Fred at the 1999 Networld Interop show discussing Lantronix' Thin Servers (now commonly called device servers) and cyber farming:
