High power energy harvesting (HPEH) is the clean part of off grid renewable Energy (OGRE). HPEH omits the polluting burning of biomass: it concentrates on making free ambient energy - movement, heat, light, infrared etc. into off-grid electricity where it is needed. HPEH has zero pollution at that point of creation and use. Nowadays HPEH usually delivers large amounts of electricity.

Airborne wind energy (AWE) is involved, with tethered drones, buoyant turbines and kites creating 10kW to hundreds of kW. Aircraft and ships can run their propellers backwards to grab kilowatts when soaring, sailing, slowing or when mooring in a tidestream. The day is coming when dynamic charging of electric vehicles as they go along will use "free" power from solar roads and solar sound barriers at tens of kilowatts or more. The vehicles themselves will be frugal, using maybe six forms of HPEH, including 1kW of triboelectricity from tires according to one research team.

Boats and buoys already use wave power. Some wave power is magnetostrictively harvested now. The ubiquitous solar panel with a little wind turbine seen on remote houses, road signs and boats will add other harvesting modes so little or no battery is needed to smooth things out. There is even talk of urban houses disconnecting from the grid to save money and improve security of supply.

The list goes on. Although much of this is only experimental as yet, the potential is enormous, the need very compelling.

That is one reason why leading analyst IDTechEx has produced a unique report this year, High Power Energy Harvesting: Off-Grid 10W-100kW 2016-2026. This webinar shares some of its remarkable findings and forecasts based on intense travel by IDTechEx PhD level analysts in 2015.

The webinar will cover:

  • HPEH definition, energy sources and technologies
  • Progress so far - vehicles and static applications
  • Roadmap for the future and forecast

We will be holding exactly the same webinar twice in one day. Please register for which ever session is most convenient for you.
