Dr Matthew Haynes is a Technology Analyst supporting the company's research across advanced materials, critical minerals and sustainability. Matthew holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, where he gained experience of collaborative circular economy-focused research and university-industry partnerships. He is currently based in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
Matthew graduated with a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry for Future Manufacturing from the University of Oxford in 2020, where he pursued his long-standing interest in sustainable chemical solutions grounded in circular economy principles. His work focused on the development of novel catalysts based on earth abundant metals and their application to biodegradable plastic production. Matthew has co-authored four peer-reviewed journal articles and presented his work at multiple international conferences. During this period, Matthew also coordinated a large international research collaboration across the UK, Germany, and New Zealand while conducting widespread scientific communication work through extensive industrial engagement, outreach, and teaching commitments.
Matthew previously obtained a first-class integrated MSc degree in Natural Sciences (specialising in synthetic chemistry) from the University of Cambridge in 2020. During this time, he completed a final-year master's research project exploring novel anion transport systems, for which he was awarded multiple academic prizes.
Matthew is currently supporting the company's research on advanced materials, critical minerals and sustainability.
