Platinum-Free Fuel Cells and Some Thoughts about the Industry (Electric Vehicles Land, Sea & Air USA 2012)

Dr McCormick has held several technical and business executive leadership positions of relevance to this conference. While at Los Alamos, Dr McCormick started the DoE's Fuel Cells for Transportation program in the late 1970's. This program chose, developed and funded research in PEM fuel cell technology for future

automotive applications. At GM, Dr McCormick formed and was Managing Director of Delco Propulsion Systems which developed and commercialized the integrated electric propulsion systems , subsystems, and componentry for GM's EV1 and S10 electric vehicles, as well as early hybrid vehicles and EV's from other OEM's. Componentry and subsystems included motors, controllers, power electronics, batteries, battery packs, as well as battery chargers. Later, Dr. McCormick formed and led GM's Global Alternative Propulsion Systems organization which was responsible for all aspects of GM's hydrogen and fuel cell development activities world wide. Prior to his retirement from GM in 2008, Dr McCormick transitioned these activities into the main operating divisions of the Corporation in preparation for the upcoming launch of GM hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Dr McCormick has most recently been a consultant for various governments and corporations globally on sustainable energy initiatives thru Prepared Minds International.
