Presentation Summary1) This presentation will briefly introduce some of the background and concepts behind 3D printing and present our work on developing materials to 3D print structures with added function beyond that of a mere concept prototype. 2) These structures range from 'drop-in' replacements of commercially available sensing products through to working electronic devices with capacitive sensors printed directly on a 3D printer. 3) Using this technology it is possible to envisage a range of digitally distributable and customisable products that can contain embedded sensors and electronics in ways not possible with existing production technologies. Speaker Biography (Simon Leigh)Dr Leigh gained his undergraduate degree in chemistry and PhD in nanochemistry from the University of Birmingham. He is presently based at the University of Warwick , researching in the area of 3D printing/additive manufacturing where he is exploring how new materials and processes can be used to produce structures and devices with added or embedded functionality.
