Varibel Innovations
Varibel was established in 2003, based in Arnhem in the Netherlands. The company was formed as a way to commercialize technologies developed at TU Delft. Varibel purchased the key patents for 'hearing glasses' and the associated technology in 2003. They brought this product to market in 2006.

Researchers have discovered that when light hits germanium nanocrystals, the crystals produce 'bonus electrons'. These additional electrons could increase the yield of solar cells and improve the sensitivity of photodetectors.

Solar panel skin to make homes energy neutral
The project 'House with a Skin' aims to solve the problems relating to the current building stock by laying a new skin over existing houses. The skin covers the exterior of the existing house from font to back, one side fitted with glass and photovoltaic panels to harvest the energy from the sun, while the other contains added insulation to trap the heat indoors.
