Hydrogen internal combustion engines are emerging as a potential alternative to both battery and fuel cell electrification. Key advantages include an easier retrofit and lower capital expenditure, however there remain challenges such as fueling and to what extent these machines are net-zero. IDTechEx has analyzed some of the emerging players in this space as well as assessing some of the strengths and weaknesses of hydrogen combustion against other net-zero options.
