Enfucell wins new EU funding

The FLEXIBILITY consortium, consisting of Enfucell, Siemens, VTT, Varta Microbattery and seven other leading European technology companies and universities, has been granted a 4,9 million euro project funding by the EU commission of which Enfucell's share is 258.000 euros. The project is coordinated by the Dresden University of Technology and has a life span of four years.

Siemens receives major order from Portugal for 100 EV charging columns

Siemens has received a major order for its model Charge CP700A charging point from Portugal. As part of the Portuguese program to promote electromobility (MOBI.E), Siemens Portugal concluded a framework agreement for delivery of up to 300 charging points. A binding order for 100 of these charging points was placed immediately by the customer INTELLI, as the coordinator of the Portuguese program. INTELLI is planning the setup of the charging infrastructure network in Portugal and intends to install the charging points in 25 cities by 2012, at public parking lots and near shopping centers, hotels and airports.

We attended the Plug In 2011 event in Raleigh North Carolina last week. In contrast to the successful IDTechEx event }}Electric Vehicles Land Sea Air | http://www.idtechex.com/electric-vehicles-europe-11/}} event in Stuttgart Germany, this had the more typical focus of cars. Organised by the Electric Power Research Institute and with many prestigious sponsors, it was a great success with over 600 attending on a given day excluding the public openings.

Electric vehicle infrastructure surprises

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure will see a frenzy of change over the next ten years. That will involve how it is made and installed, how it operates and even whether it is needed at all. For example, the 1.3 million electric vehicles for the disabled, obese and elderly being sold this year will rise to over three million in 2021 and none of them will have a charging station - you simply plug them into a regular socket. Registering that the most convenient and affordable charging station is none at all, the e-bike manufacturers have at last started to move in the same direction. Adoption of the new lithium-ion batteries releases a huge amount of weight and space and a charger can now be fitted into the e-bike. That will become more affordable as the years go by.
