Market size and dynamics for 3D printing materials
The market for 3D printing materials is held artificially high by premium pricing on the part of a number of 3D printer manufacturers and maintained in some cases by locking-in of end-users to the printer manufacturers own materials supplies. This is hindering development both of novel materials and a competitive market as barriers to entry of new 3D printing materials suppliers are high.
In this article, IDTechEx Research examines the market for 3D printing material, considering different price evolution scenarios. IDTechEx Research breaks down the total market by material type, considering photopolymers, thermoplastics (powdered and solid), metal powders, inkjet materials. IDTechEx Research also assesses the sensitivity of the material market to the total installed base for a given 3D printing technology.
