Surgical Robot Readies for Space Station Test
A miniaturized robot is on scheduled to blast off into space to showcase its skills. NASA recently awarded the University of Nebraska-Lincoln $100,000 through the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research to ready the surgical robot for a 2024 test mission aboard the International Space Station.

World's Largest 3D Printed Logistics Vessel
Researchers have achieved a groundbreaking milestone in composite manufacturing with the production of two 3D-printed prototype logistics vessels for the US Department of Defense. The longer of the two vessels, the largest ever 3D-printed, simulates ship-to-shore movement of 20-foot containers representing equipment and supplies. The second vessel can transport a Marine rifle-squad with organic equipment and three days of supplies.

Optomec 60% Growth in Additive Electronics and Metal System Orders
Optomec Inc announced a sharp increase in bookings during fiscal year 2021, including nearly 60% growth in new orders for its proprietary Aerosol Jet and LENS industrial printers. The steep rise in recent sales puts business activity well ahead of pre-pandemic levels, where Optomec had already experienced 50% growth in 2019, and takes the total installed base to nearly 600 machines across more than 250 customers.
