Electric vehicle (EV) fires are a rare event, especially in comparison to their combustion engine counterparts. However, that does not mean that their fire safety can be ignored. A combination of public perception, shifting regulations, financial impact, and general consumer safety are driving manufacturers to put an increased focus on the fire safety of EV batteries.
A key method of enabling EV battery fire safety is the adoption of passive fire protection materials. These materials are designed to limit thermal runaway propagating between battery cells and/or prolong the time it takes for a fire to exit the battery pack. Thanks to the increased fire safety focus from OEMs and the rapidly growing EV market, passive fire protection materials, and their suppliers will see a large opportunity within the evolving EV market.
This webinar will draw upon research from IDTechEx's brand new report "
Fire Protection Materials for Electric Vehicle Batteries 2023-2033". The webinar will cover the drivers behind the adoption and choice of passive fire protection materials used in EV batteries. The choice of cell format and chemistry will be addressed, along with the current methods of fire protection and where IDTechEx expects some of the large opportunities to be in fire protection materials.
This webinar will cover:
- Drivers behind the greater focus on EV battery fire safety
- Battery design, evolution, and the impact on fire protection materials
- Fire protection materials and their adoption
- Future opportunities for fire protection materials
