Good Vibrations: The Future of the Haptics Market

IDTechEx forecasts that the market for haptic actuators and control technologies will reach US$7.1B by 2035, but the drivers behind this growth are substantially different from those of the last ten years. Where growth in "traditional" haptics markets, particularly smartphones, was largely driven by the number of devices sold increasing every year, as many of these markets have reached maturity or even declined, the haptics industry has had to look for new opportunities.

In some cases, this has been by increasing spend on haptics per device e.g., with the adoption of kinesthetic haptics in the triggers of Sony's DualSense controllers for the PS5 or with the expected adoption of piezoelectric haptic actuators for localized button haptics in smartphones. In vehicle interiors, a key emerging application area for haptics, growth has come from both widening adoption of haptics and increasing spend on haptics per vehicle - although there are indications that this trend could face headwinds. The story of the haptics market from 2025 to 2035 looks to be more complex than the transition from ERM (Eccentric Rotating Mass) motors to LRAs (Linear Resonant Actuators), which was the major story of the preceding decade.

IDTechEx will explore key narratives from the haptics market in this webinar, taking insight from its new report, "Haptics 2025-2035: Technologies, Markets, Players". The webinar will include:
  • Overview of the major haptic actuator technology choices
  • Exploration of haptics technology innovations and developments
  • Highlighting expected stories in the haptics market for the next ten years
  • Adoption roadmaps for haptics technology
