The BIMAQ (Bremen Institute for Metrology, Automation and Quality Science) is an engineering research institute and a part of the Faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen, Germany. In several projects high experience in building prototypes of commercial vehicles has been gained. Research topics in that area are embedded control, modelling and simulation, Rapid Control Development, Hybrid Energy Management, regenerative energy sources, energy harvesting for sensor application, thermal management and human interface technology. The institutes multi discipline approach is shown by knowledge in fields from gear metrology through advanced in-process measurement methods, control until medical applications. This is supported by excellent metrology laboratory equipment (1µm-2m), laser laboratory, mechanical prototype production facility and electric vehicle prototypes.

Energy harvesting and wireless sensors ready for prime time
Energy harvesting is the conversion of ambient energy into electricity to drive small or mobile electronic and electrical devices. Wireless sensors are particularly in need of energy harvesting because they are increasingly deployed in numbers and locations where hard wiring or battery changing are impracticable. We are at an exciting stage with both because harvesting is becoming better and electronics is demanding less power -so they meet in the middle.
