PreAct: Short-Range Flash LiDAR to Compete with Radar and Ultrasonics

PreAct is a start-up that was founded in 2018. It recognised that long-distance LiDAR would be a longer-term issue, with self-driving applications not ready for mass production in the short term. However, short-range sensing currently dominated by radar and ultrasonics presents an opportunity for LiDAR today. This is the market that PreAct is targeting with its TrueSense product.

AMS Osram

AMS Osram is a semiconductor company that makes 905nm laser emitters and detectors for LiDAR. IDTechEx spoke to AMS Osram at AV Sensors 2023, where it was showcasing some new laser products with improved thermal performance and detectors used for in-cabin applications.

Cassie the robot has established a Guinness World Record for the fastest 100 meters by a bipedal robot. Cassie clocked the historic time of 24.73 seconds starting from a standing position and returning to that position after the sprint, with no falls.
