Pipistrel

Profile
Pipistrel d.o.o. Ajdovscina was established in 1987 and is the World leader in development and production of Advanced light aircraft. Such a success was made possible by our progressive thinking and innovative production philosophy: the policy of our aircraft design has been based on aerodynamically clean lines and a perfect surface right from the start. Pipistrel is producting the world's only 2-seat electric powered glider, the Taurus Electro, which, together with the Solar Trailer make a totally emissions free and independed solution for flying. In 2011, with the Taurus G4, team Pipistrel-USA.com won the NASA Green Flight Challenge, smashing the required 200 PassengerMPG by flying a 200 mile course with an average speed of 107 mph and achieving 403 PassengerMPG.

Crossover to Electric Aircraft Well Progressed

Electraflyer has announced that it has passed crossover, meaning it now sells more battery-electric aircraft than polluting ones. Pipistrel sold over 100 battery-electric aircraft last year as they take over from its traditional offerings. Bye Aerospace does not even make conventional aircraft. With its Tesla-style approach, its order book exceeds 720 battery-electric aircraft evenly split between two and four-seaters. As the IDTechEx report, "Manned Electric Aircraft: Smart City and Regional 2021-2041" points out, this has caught Cessna, Cirrus and Piper by surprise.

Next Electric Vehicles Get Ultra Lightweight Motors

In electric aircraft, motor power-to-weight ratio is paramount for endurance, the main constraint on sales. You cannot lug ever more battery weight to get range. Indeed, better motors mean less battery in a land, water or air vehicle. The new IDTechEx Research report, "Electric Motors for Electric Vehicles: Land, Water, Air 2019-2029" explains the new emphasis on power-to-weight ratio with good efficiency.
