Tesla Suspercharger Access for Third Party Brands Pilot Project
Nov 02, 2021
Tesla has begun testing the use Supercharger locations in the Netherlands for drivers of electric vehicles from other brands to assess demand.
Access to an ubiquitous, convenient and reliable fast charging network is essential for the large-scale adoption of electric vehicles. For this reason, Tesla has dedicated themselves to the rapid expansion of their charging station network since the opening of their first Supercharger charging stations in 2012. There are already more than 25,000 superchargers worldwide. For further information see the IDTechEx report on Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles and Fleets 2021-2031.
With this pilot project, electric vehicles from other brands in the Netherlands now have access to 10 supercharger stations via the Tesla app (version 4.2.3 or higher). Tesla drivers can continue to use these stations as usual, and Tesla will closely monitor each location for bottlenecks and take feedback from customers for any adjustments.
It has always been Tesla's goal to open up the Supercharger network to electric vehicles from other brands in order to encourage more drivers to switch to electric mobility as this step directly supports Tesla's mission to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy.
More customers using the Supercharger network mean faster expansion of electric mobility. In the future Tesla would like to be able to welcome both Tesla and non-Tesla drivers to every Supercharger worldwide.
