Speaker Biography (Beng Ong)

Professor Beng Ong is presently the Deputy Director of Institute of Creativity and Chair Professor in Materials Science at Hong Kong Baptist University. He was formerly a Director at Institute of Materials Research & Engineering (IMRE) and Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), and a Programme Director at Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) as well as a Nanyang Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Prior to his relocation to Asia in 2007, Professor Ong was a Xerox Senior Fellow and 21st-Century Materials Strategist of Xerox Corporation and Area Manager of Advanced Materials and Organic Electronics at Xerox Research Centre of Canada. Professor Ong currently holds a patent portfolio of over 220 US patents and numerous foreign patent equivalents in Canada, Europe, and Asia, and has published extensively on advanced materials and processes for nanotechnology and emerging electronic technologies. He has delivered well over 150 invited talks including plenary, keynote and distinguished lectures since 2004, and was named to Scientific American Top-50 as Business Leader in Chemicals and Materials (2004). He received a Nanyang Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater in 2006, and many technology programmes that he had managed at Xerox had won international accolades including NanoTech-50's Nanotechnology Innovation Award and Nanotechnology Commercialization award (2007), American Chemical Society's Innovation Award (2006), Connecticut Quality Improvement Gold Award (2006), and Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Runner-up Award (2005).
