Presentation Summary

SatisFactory applies cutting-edge technologies to transform traditional factories into Factories of the Future, in a productive and appealing to workers way, including innovative solutions with smart sensors and augmented-reality. Farextra, the project's spin-off company, provides solutions regarding on-the-job training, real-time emergency response, augmented assistance, object recognition, localization and real-time data overlay.

Speaker Biography (Dimosthenis Ioannidis)

Mr. Dimosthenis Ioannidis is a Computer & Electrical engineer and a Senior Researcher at Information Technologies Institute/Centre for Research and Technologies Hellas (CERTH/ITI) and member of the Visual Analytics, Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory ( He is also CTO in FAREXTRA company, which is a spin-off of CERTH established on 2017, for exploiting VR/AR technologies co-developed with REGOLA company in H2020 EU Funded Project "Satisfactory".
He received the Diploma degree in electrical and computer engineering, the MSc. in Advanced Communication Systems and Engineering from the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his Phd on "Privacy-aware human presence and movement analysis in controlled and uncontrolled environments", from the department of Computer Engineering and Informatics of the University of Patras, in 2000, 2005 and 2017 respectively.
He has been a teaching assistant at TEI Thessaloniki (2006-2010). His main research interests include computer vision, stereoscopic image processing and signal analysis, linguistics algorithms, web services, semantics, visual analytics, energy efficiency, IoT platforms development, as well as research in ethics and biometrics.
During the last five years, he has been the (co)author of more than 25 papers in refereed journals, edited books, and international conferences. He has served as a reviewer for several technical journals. He has also been involved in more than 20 research projects funded by the EC and the Greek secretariat of Research and Technology.
Since 2003, Mr. Ioannidis has participated in 35 Research and Development projects of CERTH/ITI & MLS Multimedia company: of which 18 are funded by the EC (6 H2020, 10 FP7 ICT, 4 structural/cross border), 3 are funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology and 12 are based on Private & Public National Funds (Programme PEPPER, PABET, Private contracts), acting both as Scientific Responsible and as the Quality Manager of the whole European consortium (Scientific Responsible of the project in 1 H2020 project and Quality Manager of 4 European Projects & 1 National Funded).
During his involvement in these projects, he involved as a leader of several WPs, where he had the supervision of large team of developers and technical teams. He is also currently acting as an Ethics evaluator of running projects executed under the auspices of EC, providing services such as monitoring of research activities performed in projects in respect to assigned ethics requirements. Services are related to the assessment of the human participation in real-life trials, privacy enhancing technologies used for the protection of personal data as well as other ethics issues that shall be tackled within a project lifetime (i.e. dual use, misuse and personal sensitive data).

FAREXTRA is an CERTH/ITI spin-off company founded in January 2017 in collaboration with the Italian company REGOLA offering VR/AR Training solutions mainly for industrial clients. Its flagship platform will be the AR Training Creation/Presentation suite developed within the scope of the Satisfactory EU funded H2020 project, encompassing Marker-based as well as Markerless AR solutions for on-the-job training in the Factories of the Future (FoF). The company will also develop technological solutions based on image processing/depth sensing and IR imaging bringing novel solutions and products to industrial applications.
