Short overview of the ITA (Institute of Textile Technology) and the working group MST (Medical Smart Textiles). Introduction to the topic of textile joining using embroidery technology. Explanation of the idea "Wound treatment by light therapy". Presentation of the integration of actuators to illuminate the wound and sensors for wound monitoring using the example of a currently running publicly funded project. One aspect is the realization of stretchable and conformable electronics within a wearable device for hard-to-reach areas, in this case ankles.
Tobias Beck graduated at RWTH Aachen University in the field of mechanical engineering. He specialized in medical engineering. Since 2019 he does his PhD at the Institut für Textiltechnik of the RWTH Aachen Univer-sity in the Medical textiles group. His work focuses on the development of smart textiles for medical applications, including smart wound dressings for chronically ill patients. His long term goal is to advance the research topic of Smart Implants and to create the basis for the transfer of Smart Implants into clinical and commercial applications.
The Institut für Textiltechnik of RWTH Aachen University (ITA) is affiliated with the Chair of Textile Technology in Mechanical Engineering and is hea-ded by Professor Dr. Thomas Gries. The ITA has around 100 scientific as-sistants focusing on mechanical engineering and textile process enginee-ring, polymer technology and high-performance fibre materials, textile pre-forming and fibre composites, medical technology, smart textiles and joining technology as well as simulation and measurement technology. For research and development work, the ITA possesses a fully equipped pilot plant with approximately 250 textile machines and test benches covering all textile process stages from spinning to joining.
