The company was built on the foundation of a nanostructured solid polymer electrolyte technology developed at LBNL. This technology, later branded as "DryLyte," utilized a block copolymer that combined safety, non-flammability, and high energy density. The solid electrolyte allowed the use of lithium-metal anodes, which offered significantly higher theoretical capacities compared to conventional graphite anodes.
