Johnson is the President and CEO of Thin Battery Technologies, Inc. TBT is the leading supplier of thin, flexible, eco-friendly printed power source solutions. He joined the company as an independent director in 2005 and in 2006 assumed his current position. The company closed a $6.2 million Series A funding in March 2007 and today is transitioning from late stage development into growth. Prior to joining TBT Gary led multiple international technology-related businesses in early stage, high growth, exit and turnaround phases as an executive and director. The venture backers of FLXmicro, Inc., a troubled development stage enterprise spun out of Case Western Reserve University, in 2005 named Gary as president and CEO. He defined and secured the funding to execute a turnaround strategy. The company has raised follow on financing and today is a leader in polycrystalline silicon carbide microstructures. Gary continues as a director. In 1983 he partnered with a local investment banker to form a private equity group to accomplish a leveraged buy-out of Sawyer Research Products, Inc., a leading producer of quartz crystal material for frequency control and optics with sales of $2.5 million and mounting losses. Gary guided the company into a leadership position in markets associated with mobile communications and automotive applications. Under his guidance sales profitably increased to $40 million. Starting in 2001 until 2004 Gary led a retrenchment and financial restructuring of the company that resulted in a return to profitability and a successful recapitalization. Gary holds a BSEE degree from Purdue University and an MS Industrial Administration degree from the Krannert Graduate School Management of the same university. He is active in the Northeast Ohio community, including service as Chairman of the Board of the Cleveland Institute of Art since 2004.
