This upcoming webinar shares some of the research for the new IDTechEx report, Electric Trucks 2020-2030. Like other sectors of the automotive industry, the medium and heavy-duty truck market is being forced to evolve. Whilst this sector represents just 9% of the global vehicle stock, their large diesel engines, combined with greater mileage, mean medium and heavy-duty trucks are currently responsible for 39% of on-road transport's global greenhouse gas emissions. This is 5% of the world's annual fossil fuel derived CO2 emissions.

The reality is that for governments to deliver meaningful policy to prevent a dangerous level of climate change, there must be an almost total decarbonisation of road transport. This, alongside the growing evidence of the detrimental impact on human health of vehicle exhaust pollutants, is resulting in significant pressure being placed on truck manufactures to act. The fundamental fact that improvements to combustion engine powertrains cannot deliver the drastic emission reductions required in the relatively near future, necessitate the development of near-zero on-road emission powertrain solutions.

Battery electric (BEV) and fuel cell electric (FCEV) trucks offer manufactures the avenue to this ultra-low on-road emission future. Prudent companies in the industry are already transitioning themselves towards the developing supply chains for these technologies. Those that are not, risk being left behind. The IDTechEx report, Electric Trucks 2020-2030, is designed to help businesses across the automotive value chain plan for the future in this changing market. The report provides 48 forecast lines for battery electric and fuel cell electric trucks, that include a ten-year outlook for vehicle production, market penetration and market value, with separate forecasts for both the medium and heavy-duty truck markets and regional segmentation for China, North America, Europe and ROW.
