Joe Carey is a Technology Analyst at IDTechEx, focussing on sustainability and energy storage. Joe joined the company in 2026 after obtaining an MCHEM in Chemistry for Sustainable Energy from the University of Liverpool, where he gained expertise in carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), plastics recycling, battery technologies and more. He is currently based in Leeds, UK.
Joe began his integrated master's degree (MCHEM) in Chemistry for Sustainable energy in 2021 at the University of Liverpool. His 3rd year project focussed on using enzymatic approaches to recycling nylons whilst his master's project focussed on developing semiconductive polymer fibres for carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) applications. In addition, he studied the synthesis of chemical from biomass, energy storage technologies, electrolyser technologies and photovoltaics. Through his degree he gained wide-ranging chemical and technical expertise in addition to strong analytical skills.
At IDTechEx, Joe's research broadly covers sustainability, focussing on energy storage technologies.
