World First Hydrogen Powered Ambulance Prototype Displayed
Visitors to COP26 in Glasgow are viewing the world's first hydrogen fuelled ambulance, created by ULEMCo, the UK hydrogen fuel pioneer, and their partners. Interest is strong in the working prototype vehicle, which incorporates a hydrogen fuel cell in the powertrain, can be refuelled quickly and is capable of up to a 300-mile range.

ULEMCo Ltd was founded in 2014 as a spin out from Revolve Technologies Ltd (manufacturer of automotive and marine engines which was acquired in August 2019 by the R&D arm of shipping company CMB NV). ULEMCo is based in Liverpool UK and specializes in converting standard diesel commercial vehicles to dual fuel hydrogen diesel vehicles (H2ICED®) reducing CO2 emission to ultra-low levels. Dual fuel mode has a 160-180-mile range, with an mpg of around 75-85 mpg, and 70% of the energy provided by hydrogen. They have developed a 100% hydrogen fuelled Volvo FH16 truck with reported thermal efficiencies of 45%.
