Quantum dots making inroads in displays
Quantum dots have been developed since the early 80's but it is only recently that they made an appearance in consumer products such as TVs and tablet computers. IDTechEx Research has published a new market report on quantum dots titled Quantum Dots 2016-2026: Applications, Markets, Manufacturers, and as part of this study we have looked at their impact on the display industry. Is this the technology that will enable LCD to rival OLED?

Quantum dots now showing their true colours

Sony
Sony was one the early pioneers in AMOLED displays. Initial development started in 1994 and was housed at the Atsugi design center (south of Tokyo). Sony introduced the world's first OLED TV in 2007, using a 11" panel. It was only produced in small quantities. Sony is currently producing OLED panels for professional monitors (used during film/video production)

At IDTechEx Printed Electronics USA in Santa Clara on the 30th of November and the 1st of December 2011, there will be a focus on technologies such as OLEDs and electrophoretic displays, with leading innovators such as Sumitomo, Panasonic and E Ink discussing their progress.
