Efficient Power Conversion: GaN FETs
EPC is a provider of power semiconductors using gallium nitride (GaN) technology. The key areas discussed with IDTechEx were the benefits of their GaN FETs (field-effect transistors) over the typical silicon MOSFETs (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors) for applications such as LiDAR and for low voltage electric motors.

OQmented are a fabless developer of laser beam scanning (LBS) systems, focusing on displays for augmented reality (AR) devices and 3D sensing for consumer electronics. The Fraunhofer ISIT spinout use hermetically sealed MEMS mirror systems and Lissajous scanning to increase device performance. The company, based in Itzehoe, Germany, are in the process of spinning out their automotive LIDAR operations.

AlixLabs is an early-stage company that is commercialising an improved method of atomic layer etching (ALE) in semiconductor manufacturing. Their method, which they call Atomic Layer Etch Pitch-splitting (ASP), is projected by them to reduce process time, investment costs and environmental impact for fabrication of upcoming generation IC chips by approximately half per lithography mask layer.
