Presentation Summary

To improve air quality, Governments around the world are restricting the use or in some cases banning altogether gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
 
Governments can legislate all they want, but for the billions of drivers around the world of ICE vehicles who just want to get their kids to school, get to work on time or get home - they want two things to switch to an Electric Vehicle (EV): first that the 'sticker price' or selling price of the EV and ICE vehicle is the same, and secondly that the driver experience is the same.
 
Today EV's are more expensive than ICE vehicles because of the cost of the batteries. ZapGo has developed technology to reduce the cost of future EV's to make them less expensive to produce than ICE vehicles.
 
Drivers of ICE vehicles are used to filling a tank with fuel in 5-10 minutes and then being able to drive 500km or more before they need to refuel again. By contrast, electric vehicles today can take hours to recharge and have a much more limited range.
 
ZapGo based in Oxford, UK is also developing technology to enable orders of magnitude faster charging of EV's than is possible today by replacing the highly flammable lithium and cobalt batteries with safer Carbon-Ion technology or hybrid capacitors operating at 1MW (mega Watt) or 1,000kW making it possible to recharge a vehicle in 5 minutes for a 500km range. The technology is already incorporated into an autonomous vehicle that recharges in just 35 seconds.

Speaker Biography (Stephen Voller)

Stephen Voller is an experienced entrepreneur and business leader with 25 years of experience of running technology companies from start-up to IPO. He has raised over $100m for these companies, which included an IPO for a hydrogen fuel cell company which he founded. This company used a fuel cell as a range extender or battery charger. In 2004 he developed the world's first commercial CE certified proton exchange membrane PEM fuel cell generator based on metal hydride and compressed hydrogen fuel. Stephen has a degree in Data Processing from the University of Leeds, is a Chartered Engineer, and is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
