Presentation Summary

IoT needs agile and lean and traditional SOA is not such an approach. Event driven fabric where devices, applications and humans interact only when necessary, dynamically coming in and out of relationships as their profile matches events in real time is required. Furthermore a pub/sub infrastructure with a service broker and peer to peer as opposed client/server architecture is the only way to advance IoT. The discussion will focus on XMPP as the gateway to cloud protocol to facilitate the fabric. XMPP is used by UPnP Forum, Google for Cloud Connection, Apple for App notification for all App Store apps, Intel CCF, AllSeen and many others.

Speaker Biography (Michael Holdmann)

I have been involved in Telecom/Internet since the early 1980's, launching an interconnect phone company. I launched a wireless MMDS internet company in mid-1990's and created an ASP model (old term for Cloud) using network attached appliance with secure card log on with no storage at endpoint in late 1990's. I worked developing and launching VPN, MPLS and converged communications technologies at an RBOC in the early 2000's. I opened APAC LTAM for an eCommerce platform. I launched a secure remote desktop environment and backend system company using portablized application design as opposed to VM/VDI. I am currently EVP & CMO at Coversant Inc.

Company Profile (Coversant)

Coversant logo
Coversant Inc. developed SoapBox, an Internet of Things Service Bus (IoT-SB) which enables event driven fabric where devices, applications and humans interact only when necessary, dynamically coming in and out of relationships as their profile matches events in real time is required.

Coversant gives you, for the first time, the ability to connect your things with the same security and privacy that the United States Department of Defense mandates and uses to connect its things.

Coversant's IoT-SB allows any protocol on any platform from any provider to federate, communicate and be controlled by anything that YOU say can. It does not segregate things, it joins things that have never been able to be joined or aware of each other before and communicate back and forth when necessary.
