Presentation SummaryGraphene has generated much interest owing to its exceptional electronic properties and high mechanical strength. Here I will discuss the synthesis of graphene using a simple, convenient and scalable 'bottom-up' route to produce few-layer graphene platelets and discuss the dispersion of graphene in variety of matrices for applications ranging from paints and coatings to composite materials. Speaker Biography (Karl Coleman)Karl Coleman is a Reader in Durham University's Chemistry Department. Prior to this he has worked in the Chemistry Departments at the University of Oxford and the Université de Strasbourg, France. His work over the past few years has focused on nanoscience and nanotechnology particularly the chemistry of carbon nanotubes. His work has been funded by the EPSRC and the Royal Society and he has authored / co-authored over 70 publications, in peer reviewed journals. He is the secretary of the Chemical Nanosciences and Nanotechnology subject group of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Company Profile (Applied Graphene Materials)![]() Applied Graphene Materials (AMG) has developed and patented a proprietary "bottom up" process for the production of high-specification graphene. AGM's synthesis process is continuous and scalable, produces high-quality graphene powders, does not require a substrate and uses sustainable and readily available raw materials (not from graphite), AGM's production capacity has been expanded to support large volume graphene applications. AGM has the expertise to disperse graphene in a variety of solid matrices and solutions to deliver advanced materials optimised for many applications, including polymer composites, paints and coatings, thermal management, lubricants and functional fluids, barriers and films, supercapacitors and batteries. |
