After decades of promise, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are the first nanocarbon to have seemingly found a killer application. CNTs are being incorporated into lithium-ion batteries (LiBs), providing improved conductive pathways and anchorage sites, alongside enabling thicker electrodes leading to greater energy density. This successful adoption can be seen in the major expansions announced by notable players that are planned for the near future or already underway. IDTechEx believe that the next decade will see the demand from the energy storage sector drive the commercialisation of CNTs, with the maturing supply chain opening up opportunities beyond the energy storage market.

MWCNTs will dominate the LiB space, but opportunities are emerging for other members of the CNT family such as SWCNTs, VACNTs, hybrid products and yarn/sheets. These materials are at different points on the path to commercialisation and have a range of potential applications from next-generation semiconductors to quantum computing.

In this webinar, IDTechEx Technology Analyst Dr Conor O'Brien will assess several aspects of the carbon nanotube market including:
  • 10-year market outlook for CNTs
  • Analysis of CNT usage in the energy storage industry, including technology trends in LiBs and next generation batteries
  • Overview of other key applications
  • Discussion of key players and supply chain pain points
  • Emerging technologies incl. green feedstock

This webinar shares some of the research from the new IDTechEx report, "Carbon Nanotubes 2023-2033: Market, Technology & Players".
