Researchers have developed a stretchy, transparent and self-powering sensor that records the complex sensations of human skin.

Tiny subcutaneous implants that can continuously measure a person's blood glucose, heart rate and other physiological conditions are a Holy Grail of modern medicine. A team of NUS researchers has recently made a quantum leap into turning this dream closer to reality. They developed a new wireless reader that is so sensitive to minute changes in a sensor's readings that it enables the creation of sub-millimetre microsensors, tiny enough to be injected under the skin.

IDTechEx analyst Nadia Tsao spoke with a Helios Bioelectronics representative.

An electronic biosensor powered using the glucose in bodily fluids has been developed by researchers. The device pairs an electron-transporting polymer with an enzyme that extracts electrons from its reaction with glucose to drive its circuitry. The plastic biosensor could act as a continuous monitor of key health indicators, such as blood sugar levels in diabetes patients.

Curexo operates in two very different fields: medical and trades. The medical field includes surgical robots, rehabilitation robots, robot supplies and services, and artificial joint supplies (implants). Its trades business include food, food additives and livestock products.

Stretchy and squeezy soft sensors that can fit around body parts or squeezed in hands could be used for applications including sports and rehabilitation after injury or stroke. For example, soft electrical force sensors in the form for a squeeze ball could monitor the rehabilitation of patients with hand injuries or neurological disorders.

The company was established in 2017 in Midwestern US.

TwinswHeel is a privately funded French company with 12 people. It has developed an autonomous last mile delivery robot that can travel at 30km/hr and carry a 40Kg load (It claims that Starship, its main competitor, can do 6 km/hr).

IAM Robotics is a small company (18 person) based in the United States. It was borne out of a competition to use a robotic arm to pick a drill, mount the drill head and drill a hole. It currently develops a mobile picking robotic arm.

The company was established in 2016. It has raised $5.5miles.

RoboCV is a Russian start-up focused on mobile robotics for the warehouse/logistics industry.

KiwiBot was established in 2017 in San Francisco. It has raised $2M since.

Radar performance is dramatically changing. The switch towards CMOS at small technology nodes can bring high on-chip functional integration leading to one-chip solutions.

A pioneering pair of glasses fitted with a biosensor could provide an alternative way to test blood glucose levels for people with diabetes.
