SOLiTHOR

In May 2022, SOLiTHOR was established as a spin-off from Imec to commercialize solid-state battery technology. Based in Leuven and EnergyVille in Genk, SOLiTHOR has leveraged Imec's patented nano-Solid Composite Electrolyte (nano-SCE) and lithium nano-anode technologies. Unlike conventional sulfide or oxide electrolytes, the nano-SCE operates efficiently at room temperature without requiring high operating temperatures.

Solid Power

Solid Power was established in 2012 as a spin-out from the University of Colorado Boulder. Founded by Doug Campbell, Conrad Stoldt, and Sehee Lee, the company initially received funding from DARPA to explore next-generation solid-state battery technology. By 2013, Solid Power secured US$4.5 million in funding from ARPA-E and other non-dilutive sources, such as the Department of Defense and NASA. This early support enabled the company to transition out of the university's research labs and begin independent operations.

Asahi Kasei Corporation has launched AZP™, which is positioned within the Polymer Division, under the AZP™ Business Marketing & Development Department. This department is responsible for sales, marketing, R&D coordination, and business development for this product line.

SES AI

SES AI Corporation, formerly known as SolidEnergy Systems, was founded in 2012 as a spin-out from MIT by Dr. Qichao Hu, with incubation support from A123 Systems. The company initially focused on solid-state Li-metal batteries but soon recognized the limitations in scaling such technology for practical manufacturing. By 2013, SES had developed early prototypes of multi-layer cells.

QuantumScape is a US-based company working on oxide-based solid-state batteries.

Qingtao Energy Development

The foundation of QingTao Energy Development traces back to 2002 when a research team led by Professor Cewen Nan from Tsinghua University began exploring solid-state batteries. Early breakthroughs included the development of a lithium lanthanum titanate (LLTO) electrolyte in 2006 and a lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide (LLZO) electrolyte in 2010, both of which demonstrated excellent ionic conductivity and stability. In 2014, QingTao Energy Development was officially established, focusing on the industrialization of solid-state battery technologies.

ProLogium was founded in 2006, with core technology in oxide electrolytes, ASM, LCBs, and MAB.

Ion Storage Systems

Ion Storage Systems LLC, a US-based battery manufacturer, has developed a super-thin solid-state electrolyte. The electrolyte was first reported at the University of Maryland Energy Innovation Institute in 2016, which was made by tape casting, a conventional ceramic-manufacturing technique, followed by sintering at high temperature.

Parker LORD (Materials for BESS)
