Dr Ivan De Backer Technology Analyst
Bio
Ivan De Backer, PhD, is a Technology Analyst at IDTechEx since April 2019. His main activities include conducting target assessments, market forecasts and key player analysis for the delivery of research reports and consulting projects.
Prior to IDTechEx Ivan was a Senior Researcher at Eisai, where he optimised laboratory protocols and developed novel research methods.
Education
Ivan obtained his PhD in Clinical Medicine from Imperial College London.
He also holds a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Bath and completed a year-long internship at Janssen Pharmaceutica in his third year.
Research field
At IDTechEx, Ivan works in the field of Life Sciences. He is interested in emerging and innovative technologies from all areas of the medical industry.
Previous research fields
Ivan has a background in medical research. He previously worked as a laboratory scientist within the pharmaceutical industry in the fields of neurodegenerative diseases and schizophrenia.
His PhD project was in the field of neuroendocrinology. Ivan's research identified the glucose-sensing function of an enzyme and revealed its role in the development of diabetes. He published his work in several scientific journals and presented his findings at a leading international conference.
