Diatope GmbH were founded in late 2021 as a spin-off from the Institute for Quantum Optics at Ulm University, where co-founders Christoph Findler, Dr Johannes Lang, and Dr Christian Osterkamp had been researching chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth and nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center creation since 2014, and their labs and offices remain in Ulm.
