Meta Materials Inc. (META®) is an early-stage company that has developed multiple technologies for designing and manufacturing metamaterials. These are finely patterned structures in either 2D or 3D that enable the manipulation of light and energy to achieve properties not seen in nature. Metamaterials have multiple potential applications, including eyewear, communications, and transparent conductors. IDTechEx caught up with Rob Stone, Vice President of Corporate Development and Communications, to learn more about the company and especially its rolling mask lithography (RML) technology.

Patrol boat created in 72 hours by 3D printer
The new 3D printer is designed to print objects as long as 100 feet by 22 feet wide by 10 feet high, and can print at 500 pounds per hour. The one-of-a-kind printer will support several ambitious initiatives, including development of biobased feedstocks using cellulose derived from wood resources, and rapid prototyping of civilian, defense and infrastructure applications.

Rolith, Inc.
Rolith, Inc has developed a rolling mask lithography technology based on near field optical lithography and with the ability to pattern 300 nm features or better. They have attracted strategic funding from Asahi Glass Corporation, which is a major player in their target customer group. Their business model is to sell equipment through their partner, Suss MicroTec, and to directly design and sell masks. Their main technological competitor is nano-imprint.
