Dielectric capacitor to beat batteries?

The term supercapacitor means the same as ultracapacitor. It is traditionally limited to electrostatic devices that are based on an electrochemical double layer much thinner and of wider area than the dielectric that is the basis of all other capacitors.

Report from the IBM-EnOcean Alliance meeting

On the 29th November at the IBM Watson IoT Centre in Munich, Germany, about 60 attendees took part in a meeting about the decision by IBM to become the 401st member of the EnOcean Alliance, a group of companies that focus on hardware and software for the Internet of Things (IoT). This network was initiated by EnOcean, a German company based around Munich that, about 15 years ago, developed a battery-less, wireless technology that enables sensor solution for the IoT, building automation, and smart homes. Technology Analyst Lorenzo Grande reports updates from the meeting.

Analyzing crystal structure improves displays

The finding could potentially be useful for a number of different applications. It could lead to a way of making large, transparent display screens, where most light would pass straight through as if through a window, but light of specific frequencies would be scattered to produce a clear image on the screen. Or, the method could be used to make private displays that would only be visible to the person directly in front of the screen.
