Although there are huge market opportunities, RF-ID and NFC tags are only emerging slowly due to cost and performance limitations. At the Holst Centre, TNO and imec have developed printed electronics solutions enabling the realization of low cost and high performance circuits and devices in thin and flexible form factors. These solutions allow the realization of novel RF-ID and NFC tags that could 'disappear' in the environment in this way enabling a smarter world. The presentation will give insight in the technology developed at TNO and imec, and starting from prototype developments, we will present possible routes to commercial and industrial implementation.
