Slade R. Culp, PhD, Staff Scientist, Applied Physics Group, UTRC 2006 to present. Primary areas of research are related to energy conversion and storage, power electronics, electric machines, sensor technology development and integration, human interfaces and direct write technologies; recent projects include thermoelectric materials, device, and system design and simulation, building integration of organic photovoltaics, lifetime and reliability characterization of materials and assemblies in electric motor and drive systems and sensor development for motor control applications. Current activities are focused on development of human interfaces for building systems, high temperature electronic materials development and capability development and UTC application definition of direct write technologies for electronics, optics, and integrated sensors.
I have a total of 10 years experience, technical contribution and project management in applied physics and industrial R&D, with one patent and seven patent applications. I earned a PhD. (2006) and MS (2004) in Physics (thermoelectric materials emphasis) from University of Virginia and BS in Physics from University of Utah in 2001.
