Most of us are familiar with the term "The Internet of Things" (IoT). The IoT is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics that enable these objects to connect and exchange data. The IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely, and creates opportunities for us to better connect the physical and digital worlds. But most of these objects are relatively expensive and contain complex electronic components built using conventional silicon. Beyond the boundaries of the traditional IoT, however, there exists a tremendous opportunity to infuse everyday/consumable/disposable items with a little bit of intelligence to make them "just smart enough". This is the Internet of Everything, but it will not happen using conventional electronics technology. A paradigm shift is needed, and Thinfilm believes printed electronics is the answer. This presentation gives an overview of the opportunity and provides real-world examples of how printed electronics is extending the boundaries of the IoT to bridge the physical and digital worlds.

Dr Torbjörn Eriksson holds a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering specializing in polymer flow from the Technical University of Denmark and has more than 15 years' experience of micro and nano technology. Dr Eriksson spent five years at Obducat Technologies who specializes in Nanoimprint Lithography machines in different leading roles. In, Dr Eriksson started as VP Engineering Operations at Thin Film Electronics, one of the leading companies that are commercializing printed electronics. In 2016, Dr Eriksson took on a new role as VP Platform and Facilities Management at Thinfilm.
