RFID famine in Australia

Australia is the largest herd country to mandate cattle RFID to date. The national livestock Identification System has hit problems from inadequate supply of approved RFID tags however. These tags cost A$3 and "special identifiers" are available to plug the gap but they cost A$14.85.
National Livestock and Property Agents Association president Dick Cameron has called this extortion but RLPB spokesman Craig Scott says a high charge for last minute orders is simply to discourage cattlemen from misusing the system.
