International Display Workshop IDW Japan 2013: Conference Findings
IDTechEx has spent ten days in Japan this month in order to meet with companies to learn of the latest progress with printed electronics and related technologies. We also attended the IDW 2013 conference in Sapporo, Japan. This article summarises some of the relevant presentations given.

Printed Electronics in Japan (part I)
From July through September 2013 we have visited 35 companies and interviewed many delegates at our Printed Electronics Asia event in Tokyo as well as reviewing the lectures and talking to the lecturers. This article shares some of the trends in Japanese printed electronics and allied subjects that have emerged. It is only a taster from the huge database of information acquired and interpreted by IDTechEx analysts. Over the years, the task has been made difficult by the Japanese predilection for changing company names and this cannot help their business activity.

Highlights From second day at Printed Electronics USA 2012
The second and final day of Printed Electronics USA in Santa Clara really illustrated how far the technologies had progressed and the huge variety of players in the field. The event, organized by IDTechEx, was the best and biggest edition of the series so far. Amongst the attendees were company founders, directors, engineers, academics, but also students and patent attorneys. In particular, there were a large number of end users attending the show.

Magnesium fuel cells powered by salt water
Tohoku University has announced that it has developed a magnesium fuel cell that generates electricity using salt water as an electrolyte, instead of a chemical alkali, and in partnership with Furukawa Battery Company hopes to commercialize it within the year.
