Thin Film Technologies for the Energy Transition

Glass facades characterize modern architecture. While solar radiation serves to support heating in winter, the building interior heats up in summer and requires active cooling. Smart windows can regulate the solar radiation according to the weather situation - a forward-looking solution in times of energy saving. Researchers have now succeeded in producing the world's first thermochromic layer on ultra-thin glass in a roll-to-roll process. These results will make mechanical blinds superfluous in the future and at the same time reduce the cooling and heating energy requirements of a building.

LG Breaks Record for 6G Data Transmission

LG Electronics has successfully tested the wireless transmission and reception of 6G terahertz data - at a frequency range of 155 to 175 GHz - over a distance of 320 meters outdoors. The milestone represents a significant step toward commercializing 6G THz in both indoor and outdoor urban areas since the reference cell coverage of base stations for urban macro cells is a distance of approximately 250 meters outdoors. It is also a major jump from August last year, when LG proved it could transfer 6G THz data over a distance of 100 meters outdoors.

High-Tech Vest Monitors Lung Function

Patients with severe respiratory or lung diseases require intensive treatment and their lung function needs to be monitored on a continuous basis. Researchers have developed a technology whereby noises in the lungs are recorded using a textile vest with integrated acoustic sensors. The signals are then converted and displayed visually using software. In this way, patients outside of intensive care units can still be monitored continuously. The technology increases the options for diagnosis and improves the patient's quality of life.
