BOE

BOE fabs are all located in mainland China, allowing direct access to the huge Chinese market. Other panel manufacturers are disadvantaged because of import duty (currently 5%). China adjusts the import duty to protect domestic suppliers. - BOE has a new Gen 8.5 metal oxide fab in Hefei - For AMOLED displays, BOE is looking at both mobile and TV displays.

Samsung Display (SDC) is the leading manufacturer of AMOLED displays. SDC was spun off in April 2012 as a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. In July 2012 Samsung Mobile Display was merged into Samsung Display, consolidating the OLED and LCD businesses together. This profile specifically looks at the AMOLED side.

Market Analysis of Thin, Flexible and Printed Batteries

The battery market today is dominated by traditional batteries such as coin cell batteries, Triple-A batteries and lithium ion batteries with the former being largely used in mobile phones, laptops and electrical vehicles. The emergence of new trends such as wearable devices and Internet of Things (IoT) is however changing the space. New features such ultra-thinness, small physical footprints, flexibility and light weight are becoming increasingly prized. New players and/or old players with new technologies are gearing up to meet this emerging need. Founded in 2008, Kateeva is headquartered in Menlo Park (Silicon Valley), backed by equipment companies (Applied Materials & Veeco) and venture investors (Sigma Partners, Spark Capital & Madrone Capital). In Nov 2013, Kateeva unveiled the YIELDjet, their first inkjet printing equipment designed for OLED display production, showing pictures of a system that can handle Gen 8 substrate glass. Kateeva's printer can be used for the deposition of OLED materials but also thin film encapsulation.
