STMicroelectronics

In June 2014, STMicroelectronics began limited production of its EnFilm™ rechargeable thin-film lithium batteries. These batteries are ultra-thin (low-capacity with mm thickness) and were developed using technology licensed from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Solid Power

Solid Power was established in 2012 as a spin-out from the University of Colorado Boulder. Founded by Doug Campbell, Conrad Stoldt, and Sehee Lee, the company initially received funding from DARPA to explore next-generation solid-state battery technology. By 2013, Solid Power secured US$4.5 million in funding from ARPA-E and other non-dilutive sources, such as the Department of Defense and NASA. This early support enabled the company to transition out of the university's research labs and begin independent operations.

Ensurge Micropower ASA

Ensurge Micropower ASA, formerly known as Thin Film Electronics ASA, is a Norway-based company specializing in the development and production of ultrathin, flexible, and safe solid-state lithium microbatteries (SSLBs).

Excellatron Solid State LLC

Excellatron Solid State, LLC, a US-based technology company, introduced innovative and enabling energy storage technology. The batteries made possible by this proprietary technology can be used in many applications and processes where other batteries would be inadequate. Later, Excellatron focused on lithium air batteries and the work on solid-state batteries was carried on by Johnson Battery Technologies.

Hertha Metals

Hertha Metals is a start-up based in Texas, USA founded in 2022 developing sustainable iron and steel production technology. Hertha Metals has developed a proprietary pyrometallurgical process and high efficiency refining system to produce green steel and high purity iron. Hertha Metals is scaling-up production at its pilot plant to support the production of NdFeB magnets in the USA.

Calicat

California Catalysts (Calicat), formerly known as H2U Technologies, is a California-based startup. Calicat's unique Catalyst Discovery Engine technology uses AI with rapid catalyst screening to develop PGM-free catalysts for PEM electrolyzers.
